VISX CustomVue Wavefront Technology
Dr. David George uses CustomVue Wavefront technology to provide some the most advanced treatment available to date.

CustomVue LASIK uses a special analyzer (shown below) to produce a sophisticated map -- called a Wavefront -- of your vision that is much more precise than standard measurements.  This personalized eye data is transferred electronically to the laser equipment to help the surgeon develop a custom LASIK treatment plan for each patient.

AMOEye Laser

CustomVue LASIK vision correction with advanced WaveFront technology is one of the most precise vision correction procedures available.  Wavefront technology is groundbreaking because it has the potential to improve not only how much you can see, visual acuity measured by the standard 20/20 eye chart, but also how well you can see, in terms of contrast sensitivity and fine detail.

Wavescan TechnologyWavescan Technology — Building the Wavefront Map
Your vision is unique – as personal as your fingerprint or your DNA. WaveScan technology provides your eye doctor with a map of your vision.  A Wavescan wavefront map is an extraordinarily precise way of measuring the optics of your eye so as to be able to find even the smallest levels of optical aberration and distortion that can blur your vision.

Glasses and contacts are limited in their ability to correct unique imperfections in each individual’s vision. In fact, thousands of individuals have the same prescription.  With the CustomVue procedure, no two “prescriptions” are identical.

This precise level of measurement and treatment can enable individuals to achieve the full potential of their vision.

VISX CustomVue Results
VISX’s FDA clinical study results were remarkable. Among other things:

At one year after the VISX CustomVue procedure;
  • 100% of the clinical study participants could pass a driving test without glasses or contacts
  • 98% of the clinical study participants could see 20/20 or better without glasses or contacts
  • 70% of the clinical study participants could see 20/16 or better without glasses or contacts
  • Four times as many clinical study participants were very satisfied with their night vision after the VISX CustomVue procedure, compared to their night vision before with glasses or contacts.
The WaveScan WaveFront System is an ophthalmic diagnostic instrument that measures the refractive error and wavefront aberrations of the human eye using a Hartmann-Shack wavefront sensor.  The measurements can be used to determine regular (sphero-cylindrical) refractive errors and irregularities (aberrations) that cause decreased or blurry vision in the human eye.  The WaveScan software uses the information to create a custom tailored correction map for the unique characteristics of each individual eye.

Wavefront cornea mapWaveScan technology was originally developed for use in high-powered telescopes to reduce distortions when viewing distant objects in space.  This technology has now been applied to laser vision correction, measuring imperfections in the eye never before measured using standard methods for glasses and contact lenses.  WaveScan-based digital technology identifies and measures imperfections in your eyes 25 times more precisely than standard methods.  The powerful WaveScan software translates the information into a set of CustomVue treatment instructions for the laser.  These digital treatment instructions are then transferred to the laser, driving a new level of precision and accuracy.

VISX Star S4 IR Excimer laser

VISX Star S4 IR Laser
Dr. David George performs LASIK and PRK surgery with the VISX Star S4 IR Laser at the Physicians Outpatient Surgery Center, Ltd. in Belpre, Ohio.  The VISX STAR platform’s heritage of dependability and performance is well known.  The STAR S4 IR from VISX has taken that reputation to an even higher level.  The latest Excimer laser system represents the most advanced laser technology platform available today.  Integrating data collected by the WaveScan WaveFront System, the STAR S4 IR utilizes these exclusive VISX technologies to deliver precision custom ablations:
  • Iris Registration (IR):  The first FDA-approved, fully automated, non-contact method of alignment of the correct CustomVue treatment to the corneal site
  • Variable Spot Scanning (VSS):  Variable beam sizes from as small as 0.65 mm up to 6.5 mm scanned over the treatment area, conserving tissue and optimizing treatment times
  • Variable Repetition Rate (VRR):  VRR delivers treatment at varying repetition rates, optimizing treatment time
  • ActiveTrak 3-D Active Eye Tracking:  Captures all 3 dimensions of intra-operative eye movements—no dilation required
  • ActiveTrak Automatic Centering:  Locates, and then automatically sets the treatment center to the center of the pupil.
The advanced technology of the VISX Star S4 IR helps us provide the most accurate and precise laser vision treatment possible.

The VISX Star S4 IR Excimer laser can reshape the surface of the eye without creating heat.  This change in the surface curvature affects how light is focused onto the retina.  Standard LASIK treatments are based on the refraction obtained in the office.  CustomeVue wavefront treatments use a computer generated analysis of the entire vision system to create a custom treatment that is very precise and specific to the eye, analogous to the specificity of an individual’s fingerprint.  Wavefront treatments can fix optical problems that go beyond what we can fix with glasses or contacts.

Begining September 2017, we will be offering "All Laser LASIK." The flap will be created with laser precision using a LenSx femtosecond laser insead of the microkeratome blade used in traditional LASIK. Essentially two laser procedures are performed and not blades are used. First the LASIK flaps are made with the femotosecond laser. Then, the VISX Excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea.

Galelei G4 Advanced Cornea Analyzer
We strive to provide patients the most accurate and effective eye care possible with minimum discomfort.  Having the most advanced instruments onsite improves the way we evaluate, diagnose and treat our patients.  We have one of the most advanced corneal analysis systems in the region; our GALILEL G4 corneal analyzer is used to get detailed corneal measurements for cataract surgery and laser vision correction.  From lasers and ultrasound technology to cutting-edge software, our instruments are truly state-of-the-art because you deserve the best.

GALILEI

The GALILEI™ Dual Scheimpflug Analyzer is a high precision optical system for corneal topography and three dimensional analysis of the cornea based on a revolving dual-channel Scheimpflug camera and a Placido Disk. GALILEI™ combines the advantages of two technologies:  Placido imaging furnishes high accuracy curvature data and Scheimpflug imaging is responsible for capturing precise elevation data.

The precision measurements provided by the GALILEI  help guide our plans for astigmatism reduction and implant selection for cataract patients.  Laser vision correction patients are evaluated by this device to help determine if they are a good candidate for laser vision correction, and which procedure may be best for the them (PRK or LASIK).
